Don’t Miss Dispatch Live at SummerStage on Wednesday and Thursday
July 17, 2018
Effortlessly blending folk, rock, reggae and funk, Boston trio Dispatch have been firmly in the middle of the Venn diagram overlap of jam band and indie rock since Chad Stokes (vocals, guitar and bass), Pete Francis (vocals, bass and guitar) and Brad “Braddigan” Corrigan (vocals, drums and percussion) met at Middlebury College in Vermont more than two decades ago. In addition to their recorded output, Dispatch (above, doing “Only the Wild Ones”) quickly became known for their energetic live performances, resulting in a very dedicated fan base. But nevertheless, they went on a decade-long hiatus in 2002, only reuniting for a farewell show in Boston in 2004—which was attended by more than 100,000 fans from across the globe—and a fund-raiser at Madison Square Garden in 2007, which blossomed into three sold-out shows despite minimal advertising. But you can’t keep a good band down and so Dispatch got back together, putting out Circles Around the Sun (stream it below) in 2012, going on to play Red Bull Arena and then Radio City Music Hall the next year. America, Location 12 (stream it below) followed in 2017: “Dispatch continue to evolve, delivering a richly layered set that covers facets of their past while nudging them into new territory,” said AllMusic. And with their seventh studio album, Location 13, arriving later this year, Dispatch’s summer tour brings them to SummerStage on Wednesday and Thursday, with special guests Nahko and Medicine for the People and Raye Zaragoza.
